conservators applying surface coating

Varnish (continued)

The conservators applied a dilute solution of the stable and non-yellowing synthetic resin Acryloid® B-72 as a surface coating. They used this solution at a very low resin concentration to prevent any noticeable increase of surface gloss. In areas where removal of wax and grime during cleaning revealed a weathered and aged appearance, the B-72 resaturated these surfaces, reviving their appearance.
