Mysteries of the Rosary: Glorious Mysteries

Mysteries of the Rosary:
Glorious Mysteries

Sargent sculpted Glorious Mysteries in gilded relief in the large medallion at the crown of the vault. Critics at the time called his treatment of the subject “medieval and gothic.” Moving clockwise, from the south, around the perimeter of the crowning image of the Coronation of the Virgin, the other four mysteries include the Resurrection, the Ascension of Christ into Heaven, the Assumption of the Virgin, and the Descent of the Holy Ghost.
