Reproduction of Frieze of Prophets, Jewish Community Center Library, Rochester, NYTobias Roth, executive secretary of the Rochester Jewish Community Center, and businessman Charles W. Markus had Jewish religious and cultural formation in mind when they sought permission in 1937 and 1938 to reproduce Frieze “photographically” and “use it as a mural in our library.” The library was located in the new building of the Jewish Young Men’s and Young Women’s Association in Rochester, New York, now the Jewish Community Center, or JCC. (The building has since been sold, the mural reproductions dismantled, and the JCC has now moved to a new location.)
