In the large drawings at the right and lower left, Adam and Eve kneel at the level of the cross arms, their hands raised toward the headboard. But in the smallest drawing (bottom, center), Sargent placed them below the arms of the cross and turned their bodies outward, their hands now raised towards the hands of Christ.
