1953 Restoration (continued)

The restorers repainted the architectural paint surfaces surrounding the murals. They replicated the original color of the walls, ceilings, and borders, although without the precision of the original execution. The ornate gilded borders on the ceiling were not restored at that time and remain intact. A significant alteration to Sargent’s lighting scheme also occurred in 1953. These changes distorted the integrity of Sargent’s aesthetic concept for the Hall as a whole.
