Painting bands and stripes on the walls

Repainting of decorative wall surfaces

Prior to the 2003 restoration, Building Conservation Associates, an architectural restoration consulting firm, analyzed the decorative paint scheme throughout the space. Over-paint from the 1953 restoration was chemically removed in small, selected areas to expose original paint surfaces and ascertain the original colors and patterns on the walls and ceiling. After careful review to ensure that the colors were appropriate, the John Canning Company, a firm specializing in the restoration of decorative paint, replicated the decorative paint design throughout Sargent Hall.
