Sargent’s Frieze of Prophets also shows how he drew inspiration from people he saw in passing during his travels. His splendid sketch of a proud Bedouin Arab, for example, done on one of his trips to North Africa, strongly influenced the character and tone of his Amos, a country man who lived in the 8th century b.c.e.
