Study of a Head of a Bull The image Sargent used for Moloch came from the features of a bull’s head that was originally carved as a colossal architectural capital (over eight feet tall) for the ancient city of Susa, in what is now Iran. The bull’s head was brought to the Louvre museum in Paris in the 1880s, where Sargent saw it and made a sketch of it.
